Saffron Garden

Saffron Garden Address: 300 Lea Bridge Rd, Leyton, London E10 7LD
Website: http://saffronkitchen.co.uk/
Nearest Station: Lea Bridge (Rail Station)

The newly opened Saffron Garden BBQ restaurant inside Saffron Kitchen is a must. Prices of £20 per adult and £15 for kids. You won't be disappointed with the set menu on the table, your mouth will be drooling with what they have to offer. You have to reserve your table before you visit.

The temporary summer pop-up lasts only for a few months, with summer holidays here and heatwaves arriving continuously in the UK. What better excuse to have a BBQ in this weather?

Experience

A couple of weeks ago, I was kindly invited to try out this new BBQ food. As well as experiencing this new garden alongside a few other bloggers. The tent is located behind the main restaurant with plenty of parking spaces available in the surrounding area. As you enter you see two fire torches and inside you have plenty of instagrammable opportunities to take photos. The decor is quite eye-catching, especially when it's dusk.

Following government guidance on the 2-metre rule, tables were separated all over. When I arrived along with my Mrs, we were greeted by the staff and organisers telling them who I am etc. Tent was quite empty, as we arrived early, but that gave me a good opportunity to snap plenty of photos of the surroundings and of myself. When more people started to arrive, we then sat at a table at our chosen seats.

Whilst waiting around and having a look at what the staff preparing the food, I had a wonder at what the starters looked like. They laid all the plates out near the kitchen area, before the waiters started handing them out. Each dish came all together which was ideal, so I could take pictures of the dishes together.

Starters were:

  • Sweet Potato Chaat
  • Hummus & Chili Bread
  • Nachodoms
  • Fatoush Salad

For me the Nachodoms were a favourite. As these were really tasty and good, like crispy nacho's but Indian style.

Once the starters are completed. We ate the mains and that came at a good time right after the starters were taken back. However, the portions i felt were so huge, it could easily feed one family. The whole idea of this gathering was to network with others on a table. Then by sorting each platter accordingly to how many people per table. Although a lot of people split up, it was difficult to adjust the platter for them.

Mains included:

  • Honey Garlic Wings
  • Siracha Thighs
  • Chicken Sashlik
  • Kobeda Kebab
  • Lamb Ribs
  • Lamb Chops
  • Roast Vegetables

There were so many options to choose from. The whole platter came with Masala Chips, BBQ Garlic bread and one piece of the above menu list. Masala Chips is an all-time favourite, as we both enjoyed those alongside the wings. However, as the meat pieces were huge it was difficult to eat all of them.

Also, on the sides, they gave us butter chicken and Saffron rice. Even though I felt that it could feed up to 2 people along with the mains. However, you are guaranteed to have your money's worth. As the amount is good enough to feed a family.

Finally, for desserts, my favourite part of a three-course meal is the dessert. There were two options to choose from on the menu. They had pineapple and coconut ice cream or french toast on the set menu. I opted for French toast, as that looked indulging and delicious, where Mrs. had the coconut ice cream, which she surely enjoyed with Gajar Halwa.

Desserts included:

  • BBQ Pineapple and Coconut Ice Cream
  • Nutella French Toast
  • Tandoori Chai

Tandoori Chai

The Tandoori Chai was the most entertaining one of the night. Everyone gathered around recording and taking photos for a late-night show, as the chef cooked BBQ Chai for everyone to drink.

Food: 8 out of 10
Service: 8 out of 10
Price: 7 out of 10
Experience: 8 out of 10
Presentation: 7 out of 10

Overall: I’ve given this summer's BBQ pop-up a 7.6 out of 10.

Conclusion

Overall, I felt this place was a great experience, one where people will enjoy coming down. The garden decoration caught my eye. As you entered and especially at night with the lights on, it looked pretty. Prices here are reasonable, and the food certainly is delicious to eat. The service I experienced was great as everything came at a good time. Also, the staff gave us a brief intro explaining how the meat was produced.

I felt the experience inside the tent was wonderful to come as a couple or with family. We were welcomed nicely and had the time to take whatever photos we wanted. The food was just as good as the experience. The presentation of the food was well presented, since everything was laid out on separate plates. The mains were placed on wooden boards for people to indulge and try different items.

Openings

During August from Mon-Wed, most restaurants (including this) have registered with gov to give us 50% off their menu (only dining in). Be quick and check out as many restaurants as you can. As this is the perfect break and time whilst being in lockdown past months and not being able to dine in. You can find out what restaurants are in the scheme linked below by entering your postcode.
