Middle Eastern Shakshuka Recipe

Shakshuka Recipe

Ever tried Shakshuka?!

On Saturday it's generally our takeout night for the family, so my mother has to make something for a lunchtime one-off dish. Therefore yesterday, I recommended we try and make this delicious *Shakshuka* dish from the new recipe book I purchased a month ago. The last time I had a Shakshuka was at the Daisy Green Collection, so this was not new to me but it was to the family.

However, this is definitely on top of my favourite egg dishes.

Boy! This turned out so good as you can see for yourself! Hopefully, the recipe provided below will give you the inspiration to try it out for yourself. The best thing about this dish, you can have it for either breakfast, lunch or dinner.

What's a Shakshuka?

This Middle Eastern dish has become hugely popular since it’s a simple dish that features your everyday ingredients. While there are many variations to be made in this traditional recipe, it generally contains basic eggs poached in a spiced tomato and green pepper stew with onions and garlic.

How to make Shakshuka?

The recipe we used here was to serve four people so it will vary according to the number of people you'll be serving.

Prep Time: 10mins
Cooking: 15-20 mins

Ingredients Used here:

  • 2 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 fresh green chillies, chopped
  • 400g Tomato tin blended
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • green pepper, chopped
  • 4 boiled Eggs

Steps

  1. Heat the oil in a large, wide pan and saute the onion on low heat.
  2. Stir in the garlic with the chillies and leave to cook for a few minutes.
  3. Mix in tomatoes
  4. Stir in the peppers, and sweetcorn and cook until it's soft.
  5. Add any other additional toppings (optional)
  6. Finally, break the egg into another saucepan to make it look good, leaving the eggs runny, but that is totally up to you.
  7. Remove from the heat and Walla when it's ready to serve!

That looks great – I had a spicy dish last night. It has to be done, even during the summer months! Most of all it helps clear the airwaves and definitely makes me feel fresher and happier 😀

This looks soooo good!! I’m not a fan of the flavor/texture of soy milk. Did you by chance test with dairy milk, or have thoughts on subbing it? Thanks!!
