A Day in Frankfurt: The Ultimate 24-Hour Exploration Guide

24 Hours in Frankfurt, Germany

Frankfurt may be known as Germany's financial hub, but spend just 24 hours here and you'll uncover a dynamic city full of contrasts, sleek skyscrapers towering over historic buildings, world-class museums, cafes, and serene riverbanks lined with vibrant local life. Whether you're on a layover or planning a short city escape, this itinerary covers the best of Frankfurt in a single day. Here I show what you can do in a day in Frankfurt 🙂

Old Town Romerberg

Römerberg

Start your morning with brunch from Hana Cafe. One of the most aesthetically pleasing cafes with a delicious range of halal options to choose from. Once you've had your amazing meal at Hana Cafe, head on down to Römerberg to explore the Old Town. This charming square is filled with timber-framed houses, the old town hall (Römer), and cobbled lanes full of character.

You can enjoy the environment and surroundings by dining at one of the restaurants or simply sitting on the benches. If you have the opportunity, you can climb the Frankfurt Cathedral to enjoy a spectacular city perspective.

A few minutes away from Romerberg. There is a bridge, Eiserner Steg, known as the famous Iron Footbridge. Here you can take in the view of the rivers and see the skyline as you walk across. Also, you'll find a lot of love locks, as this bridge is well known for this. People have been placing padlocks along the entire length of the bridge.

If you have time, visit the MuseumSufer, which is located across this Iron footbridge. Depending on your interests, you will find a variety of exhibitions. However, I did not have time to visit because I was exhausted from my travel.

MyZeil

Moving over to MyZeil to do some shopping. This mall was quite huge, with a range of shops to explore. At the bottom, there is a market/grocery store where I chose to buy some local chocolates and snacks to take home. I recommend it if you want to take snacks from Frankfurt.

Main Towers

After you've finished shopping, travel down to the Main Towers for a breathtaking view of Frankfurt at sunset from the 56th floor. I planned my visit for sunset because the view and sunlight were perfect for photography. You have to go through security first after purchasing a ticket or scanning your online ticket. Then, in a matter of seconds, the lift will transport you to the top. The observatory is small, but it offers a beautiful 360-degree view of the city.

After capturing and enjoying the city scenery, finish the night with dinner. I went to Ya Medina for dinner, a halal restaurant that serves burgers, steaks, and seafood. I ordered lamb chops with roasted potatoes and a mocktail. I stayed at the Maritim Hotel for two nights because it was conveniently located near the expo where I was working.

If you have the time and energy, consider visiting Palmengarten. It's a beautiful botanical park in Frankfurt, or maybe the Zoo or a boat tour. I hope you enjoyed my guide to Frankfurt. This was my first visit, which happened during a short business trip in June. One or two days is enough time to visit this city, as there isn't much to see in terms of popular attractions.

You'll have enough time to enjoy its cosmopolitan charm, historic character, and local cuisine. Whether you're on a long layover or looking for a brief cultural break, this schedule will help you make the most of each hour.
