Experiencing the Thrills of Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore

Universal Studios Singapore is a theme park on Sentosa Island that combines the enchantment of Hollywood and Southeast Asia. It offers exhilarating rides and an immersive experience. Regardless of age, there is something for everyone to see and experience, from classic films to television series to rides and much more.

The park has seven themed zones: Minions Land (newly opened), Far Far Away (Shrek theme), The Lost World, Ancient Egypt (containing The Mummy), Sci-Fi City (including Transformers), and New York (with Sesame Street). Each themed zone has attractions, shops, restaurants, and street entertainment based on the theme. A theme park's size is reasonable, and if you arrive early, you can enjoy all of the rides available.

Experience

I highly recommend going on a weekday because there are fewer crowds. I attended on a Monday and was fortunate to arrive during a rainy day, resulting in empty queues from the start. We managed to take so many rides in the first hour. We stayed dry because most of the rides were indoors. We spent the morning getting on as many rides as we could and then continued throughout the day. We witnessed live performances such as The Trolls, WaterWorld, and a Live Movie Set. The afternoon became drier, and the lines became longer. Since some of the rides required a 40-minute wait. Fortunately, we were able to complete the majority of our desired rides during the morning.

Transformers 4-D was the highlight of my day, and the WaterWorld Show was amazing to see. The Live-Action and Trolls Shows were entertaining to watch. We only visited six zones while Minions were being created. Take a peek at what was on display and available at Universal Studios Singapore.

Tips for Visiting Universal Studios Singapore

  • Plan your day: With so much to see and do in one day, it's best to plan ahead of time. Check the show and ride timetables when you arrive. Because they all differ, you may be a long way from the shows you want to see.
  • Arrive Early: Try to go on a weekday when it's less crowded, and arrive 30 minutes or an hour before it opens. This will give you the best opportunity to get on the rides you want without having to wait in large lines.
  • Wear comfortable clothing: Prepare for a full day of excitement, and wear comfortable shoes since there will be a lot of walking. Also, wear clothing that you don't mind getting wet, as certain rides/experiences entail water spraying or getting wet.
  • Stay hydrated: Singapore's tropical weather can be hot and humid, so stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Pack Light: You can pretty much pick up anything you need here, but it's pricey. As a result, try to bring light with water bottles because there are refills in some zones, so you don't feel dehydrated.
  • Download App: Download the Universal Studio Singapore app to keep track of show times and wait times for rides, allowing you to plan your route throughout the theme park.

There are seven themed zones to explore. Take a look at what can be viewed from each zone.

Far Far Away

This area includes Shrek's Magical Fairytale Castle, where you can witness the Live Interactive Donkey Show and the 4D Show. Watch Donkey amuse and interact with the live crowd while you laugh yourself silly. Prepare for a crazy ride with Shrek and his friends in the 4D experience at a theatre. You can also find a small Ferris wheel inside for children to play.

The Lost World

This themed section was perhaps the most entertaining, with attractions such as the WaterWorld Stunt Show and River Raft Ride. Both were well worth the wait. The WaterWorld was fantastic, I enjoyed how they interacted with the audience and performed so many surprising antics. The River Raft involves sitting with other individuals and spinning around the river while getting soaked. Fortunately, it's really warm in Singapore. You tend to dry out quickly. We left this ride till the end since we wanted to explore other areas first.

This was probably the best option too as you're not walking around wet or waiting to be dry.

Ancient Eygpt

Egyptian-themed, with 'Revenge of the Mummy', an indoor roller coaster that takes you through a terrifying tomb. You may view accurate reconstructions of Egyptian pyramids and statues. It's a must-see for those wanting a thrilling adventure. We also spotted a halal restaurant here called Oasis Spice Cafe, serving Indian food and tea.

Sci-Fi City

You can experience the 'Transformers' amazing 3D ride here. I highly recommend that you try this ride. Moving with the robots provided amazing effects and an enjoyable experience. If you are a Transformers fan, you may want to see and meet Megatron and take selfies in person. Queues for this are typically long, with wait times of up to 30 minutes. On the side, they have an exciting attraction called Battlestar Galactica that takes you upside down on a roller coaster. Plus, spinning cups for both adults and children to enjoy.

New York

There are several good shows here, such as street dancers' performances. These guys were fantastic, and we were lucky to be walking by and witnessing them battle it out on the mat. Also, I saw special effects where they showcase how live movie sets are created and how genuine movies are made. At the start of the New York zone, you can visit Sesame Street by riding a rollercoaster and moving around to see the show's characters. We did this first when we arrived at USS.

Hollywood

The park begins and ends in Hollywood, which seems appropriate. This neighbourhood is primarily for shopping, dining, and viewing live acts. We attended a wonderful, fun show called 'Trolls Hug Time Jubilee'. Here, you may hear the Trolls characters sing their favourite movie songs. It's great for kids to be honest. After that, we proceeded to Mel's Diner, which serves halal meals. The burger was expensive and dry, therefore I wouldn't recommend it for the price we paid, but there were only a few halal restaurants available here.
