Itihaas Birmingham | A Luxurious Indian Dining Experience

Itihaas in Birmingham is a high-end Indian restaurant. Known for its opulent design and genuine North Indian cuisine. Combining traditional dishes with modern flair. The restaurant provides an elegant dining experience, with exquisite interiors including carved stone elephants, ancient doors, and lavish furnishings. Itihaas, an award-winning and widely praised restaurant, is a must-see for those looking for elegant Indian cuisine in the heart of the city.

Experience

This was my first time visiting Birmingham. I went on to visit this restaurant, which brought a vintage Indian vibe. As you enter, you have the traditional Indian style room with stone Elephants at the front and antique doors. As I went first thing, it opened at 4 pm, and it was empty. Luckily, I had the chance to look around the restaurant. As I'm pretty sure it gets packed out after 7 pm, when families and people tend to dine after work. As I already knew what I was ordering, which was the thaali. That narrowed it down to what I felt like, as a few of them were breakfast items. I wasn't too keen on it, hence I decided to pick Shahi Thaali and the Masala Chai Lassi. The perfect chai and lassi combination.

The drink came within 5 minutes, then followed by the thaali, which took roughly 15-20 mins. Whilst it was being made, I had a look around and snapped with video and pictures, which made the time waiting around. When I was having my food, the waiter asked if I wanted anything else. Therefore, the service was good, I loved the fact that if I wanted a refill of the items, they went ahead and refilled them. That ensures you wouldn't go hungry even after finishing the whole thaali.

After finishing all the items, I requested a refill for two items, so I made the most of it. Once I was done eating, they asked if I wanted tea or a drink, which was very generous. However, I let it be as I wanted to explore the city before heading back to my hotel.

What I Ordered

There were numerous items to select from their main menu. However, while I was looking for locations to visit in Birmingham, the thaali stood out. Known for their wonderful Indian dishes. Thaali choices allow you to experience a variety of foods on one large platter. There were three or four Thaalis to select from, but I believed this one would be plenty to fill me up for the day.

  • Shahi Thaali £29
  • Masala Chai Lassie £5.50

You can have a view of their thaali menu below

Shahi Thaali

The thaali comes with a range of dishes on your plate. The thaali is served with papadoms, naan and then a range of various dishes. From Railway Lamb Curry, Delhi Butter Chicken, Tadka Daal, Rice, Raita and coconut Kheer to indulge in. I enjoyed the butter chicken and lamb curry the most. I ordered the lamb curry again for a refill.

Butter Chicken tasted great mixed with the white rice. However, the flavour of the lamb curry was a personal favourite. I was pleased to know I could refill any of the items. However, after having lamb curry again, I felt full, but ordering this thaali is more than enough to satisfy your tastebuds.

Masala Chai Lassie

A popular after-dinner treat that combines the strong spices of Chai with ice-cold, refreshing Greek yoghurt. Served in an Indian-style glass. This was the ideal drink to accompany my lunch because it combined the flavours of tea and lassi. In addition, each sip contains a delightful combination of warmth and cold.

Conclusion

Food: 9 out of 10
Service: 10 out of 10
Price: 7 out of 10
Experience: 10 out of 10
Presentation: 10 out of 10

Result: I’ve given this restaurant a 9.2 out of 10.

Visiting this restaurant was worthwhile as I wanted to try the thaali for a while beforehand. At Birmingham, I was able to do just that with a good range of items to tuck into. The service was good, as the staff were helpful and made me feel at ease during my visit. I was well taken care of during my visit. However, the price is a bit high for some of the items on the menu. Therefore, I wouldn't say it would be a regular place to go, but once in a while is highly recommended.

The experience was nice, as I had a glance around the restaurant. As they had two floors, the kitchen was on the second floor. The room upstairs was more spacious, it even had a TV on for entertainment. Whereas downstairs it was smaller, but had a nice welcoming interior when entering. Finally, I thought the presentation was good, as the dishes and drinks I ordered looked great. Visiting here was a good idea, and I recommend it if anyone visits Birmingham looking for a good traditional Indian meal.
